My mom loves The Bobbsey Twins as well as The Boxcar Children.
I read this book many times as a child probably around age 8 or 9. Burt and Nan, Freddie and Flossie, go on a treasure hunt to try to help their friend find the treasure that his father buried before he died.
Jimmy Dodge does well to ride the train next to the Bobbsey family. They immediately take to him and he to them. The young man lives in a poorer section of town because he lives with his grandmother and his father has disappeared in a shipwreck. Unfortunately, because there's no body, there's no insurance payout to help with the bills, so the Dodges are forced to move. Mr. Bobbsey helps out by giving young Jimmy Dodge a job to ease the financial burden.

All Jimmy seems to have is his new friends and 1 of 6 coded treasure maps created by his father. The others are lost.

Dinah fulfills the role of Hannah (the housekeeper in the Nancy Drew series) by keeping everybody well-fed. Sam, who works for Mr. Bobbsey, helps by being pilot as the young people go on their adventures to help Jimmy find his buried treasure.

All ends happily, as expected, but there is a nice surprise for the Dodge family.

I enjoyed the story, but I'm not sure if it would entertain an age-appropriate kid for long. It's a simple read with absolutely nothing offensive in it. I think the worst mark against the book is that it's horribly dated. People who loved the books as a kid or like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys series may enjoy the Bobbsey Twins adventures.
I chose this rating because the book is in new condition. The price was right. And my granddaughter will love adding it to her collection. The service was great. In plenty of time before Christmas. I would recommend any of these books for young children.
I bought this book for my grand nieces. I remember reading the "Bobbsey Twins" when I was young and knew that the stories were good and that the girls would enjoy reading it. I recommend it for you children.
